    Comportamento experimental de diferentes tipos de conectores metálicos

    A realização de estruturas mistas de aço e betão requer o funcionamento conjunto destes dois materiais. A ligação entre eles é conseguida com a utilização de conectores metálicos. Neste âmbito, tem sido realizada uma considerável quantidade de estudos que abordam o comportamento de diversos tipos de conectores metálicos. O desejo de obter um comportamento óptimo com custos mínimos motivou o desenvolvimento de várias soluções. Neste artigo, procura-se descrever o comportamento de diferentes tipos de conectores observado em ensaios experimentais realizados na Universidade do Minho (UM) ou em estreita colaboração da UM com outras entidades. Apresentam-se as vantagens e as desvantagens associadas a cada tipologia de conexão analisada. Para além dos usuais conectores tipo perno, discutem-se os resultados obtidos com conectores do tipo T, tipo Perfobond, tipo Crestbond e ligação por aderência

    Fatigue strength of shear connectors

    Nowadays steel and concrete composite beams are widely applied in structures mainly subjected to dynamic loads, such as railway and road bridges exposed to traffic loads and industrial crane runways exposed to folk-lift truck loads, the fatigue resistance of these structures must be generally and carefully verified. And normally the shear forces between concrete flange and steel beams are all transferred by different kinds of shear connectors, fatigue failure of composite beam may happen on shear connectors. So the fatigue resistance of shear connectors in composite beams is significant for the safe of whole structure and needed to be well investigated. The fatigue strength of shear connectors could be explained in three ways, the fatigue endurance described by the relationships between stress range (S) and number of cycles (N), the static residual strength after a certain number of cycling loading, and the slip behavior during the cycling tests. S-N curves which widely used for steel fatigue assessment are also useful for shear connectors. Although there are already S-N curves for headed steel studs in Eurocodes and AASHTO, they are normally available for common studs. Whether these S-N curves applicable for large diameter studs or studs embedded in high strength concrete or other kind shear connectors is questionable. And the factors influencing fatigue life of shear connectors are needed more research. Furthermore, for the fatigue life assessment of existing structures, it is important to attain the residual strength after a certain service life or the principles of slip developing behavior during the service life.     The “Brincas of Evora” is a dramatic performance using popular rhymes as the narrative plot, encompassing music, dance and poetry. It is a carnival celebration inspired by old winter rituals which were common through out Europe. This paper aims to describe, analyze and discuss the “Brincas of Évora”, a type of popular performance celebrated in the south of Portugal, looking at its theatrical features and the motivations of the participants. It also discusses the community relevance of “Brincas” in terms of social, emotional and esthetic experience.     Mestrado em FinançasDe acordo com o projeto de trabalho final do Mestrado em Finanças, o presente Equity Research visa a avaliação detalhada da empresa Ryanair Holdings Plc, segundo as recomendações do CFA Institute. Inicialmente decidi estudar uma empresa da indústria da aviação uma vez que é uma indústria que me suscita interesse e gostava de conhecer a forma como se organiza. Posto isto, elegi a Ryanair porque apesar de ser uma empresa europeia da indústria da aviação, é pioneira em operar com tarifas ultra-baixas oferecendo mais de 2000 voos de curta distância por dia, servindo mais de 200 aeroportos através da Europa. Este relatório comtempla apenas a informação disponibilizada até 26 de Outubro de 2018, qualquer informação ou evento posterior a esta data não foram considerados. O preço alvo foi calculado através do método de avaliação absoluto, o método dos Fluxos de Caixa Atualizados (DCF), sendo complementado pelo método de avaliação relativa, o método dos múltiplos comparáveis. É expectável que no final de 2019 o preço-alvo seja de €10.18, representando uma potencial desvalorização de 17.07% face ao preço corrente de €12.27. Os principais riscos inerentes ao preço-alvo são o aumento do preço dos combustíveis ou o aumento do prêmio de risco de mercado. Deste modo, a nossa recomendação final para a Ryanair Holding Plc é VENDER.According to the final work project of the Master of Finance, this Equity Research aims at the detailed evaluation of the company Ryanair Holdings Plc, according to the recommendations of the CFA Institute. Initially I decided to study an aviation industry company since it is an industry that appeals to me and I would like to know how it is organized. That said, I have chosen Ryanair because despite being a European airline company, it is pioneering to operate at ultra-low fares offering more than 2000 short-haul flights a day, serving more than 200 airports across Europe. This report contemplates only the information made available until October 26, 2018. Any information or events after this date have not been considered. The target price was calculated using the absolute valuation method, the discounted cash flow method (DCF), and was supplemented by the relative valuation method and the comparable multiples method. It is expected that at the end of 2019 the target price will be €10.18, representing a potential downside of 17.07% against the current price of €12.27.     Generations’ diversity impact on knowledgesharing at work

    This work project studies the impact that several factors have on the matter of knowledge sharing at work for each generation. To examine this subject, and comprehend the factors that influence it, the following ones have been considered: Organizational Culture, Organization’s Human Resources Practices, and Organization-based Self-esteem. Successful knowledge sharing between generations shows that exist benefits inherent to diversity, particularly in terms of age. In order for those benefits to occur, it is fundamental to focus on what each generation values to be available to share the knowledge possessed, which hence will bring benefits to the organization. Through the research done, it was possible to conclude that not all the factors have a statistically relevant impact in terms of knowledge sharing. With a sample of 141 people from a Portuguese organization of the energy sector, it was found that there are no relevant differences among generations.     Fábrica do Paleão: structural assessment of iron in Portugal’s industrial heritage

    Fábrica do Paleão was erected as a flagship textile factory in Portugal between 1888 and 1891. The factory was constructed with a saw-tooth roof supported by iron trusses allowing light open spaces to accommodate heavy machinery and promote industrial activity. With an aim of preserving this exemplary representative of industrial heritage in Portugal, the work seeks to establish the buildings’ historical significance and assess their structural adequacy for present and future use. After performing a global historical survey and visual inspection, the study focused on the main industrial spaces. An in depth visual inspection provided key geometric and material parameters as well as a damage assessment. Damage mapping revealed the effects of moisture throughout the structure which is caused by the lack of maintenance in recent years. To assess the impact of the damages and obtain key parameters for a further structural and safety analysis, in situ tests were performed on the cast iron columns. Columns were tested for hardness and comparison to known values indicate that they align with ordinary to high strength cast iron.     O presente trabalho procura abordar a modelação numérica da conexão entre o perfil metálico e a laje de betão, quando se utilizam conectores do tipo perno e betão leve. Utilizam se elementos finitos de volume para definir todos os elementos presentes na ligação, recorrendo ao software ATENA 3D. A partir dos modelos desenvolvidos procura-se avaliar quais os parâmetros relevantes para o comportamento da conexão aço betão leve.
